What's new in Must Read 3.5.4
A release about waiting less. Audiobooks start faster and move between chapters almost instantly, and the scanner opens brand-new books on the first try.
Audiobooks, without the wait
Tapping Listen now used to mean asking the catalogue for the chapter list and then waiting on its answer, sometimes for long seconds, before anything played.
The chapters are now fetched while you are still on the book's page, so by the time you tap, the book is ready to speak. Moving to the next chapter is nearly instant too: the app warms it up while the current one plays, instead of rebuilding the player from scratch.
And when a chapter genuinely cannot load, the player now says so and offers to try again, rather than closing on you.
The first scan of a brand-new book
Scan a book our catalogue had never seen before, and the app fetched it, added it, and opened its page, all in one motion. Occasionally those steps raced each other, and you were left looking at an empty outline of a page. Scanning the same book again worked, which made it all the more puzzling.
The order is now guaranteed: the book lands in the catalogue first, then its page opens. First scan, first time.
On very busy days the scanner also stops blaming your connection for what is really a crowded catalogue. It quietly checks a second source, and if the book still cannot be reached, it says plainly that the catalogue is busy and to try again in a few minutes.
Imports that finish the job
Bringing a large library across from another app could leave some books as bare entries: a title and an author, no cover, no details, and nothing ever came along to fill them in afterwards.
Titles that carry their series in the name, like Beartown (Beartown, #1), also slipped past the catalogue unmatched and arrived as empty shells.
Both paths are fixed. Imports now match more of your shelf to the real books, covers and all.
And everything else
A clean slate between accounts
Signing in to a different account no longer leaves the previous account's books on your device.
No book left behind
A book that could not be added right away is retried, instead of quietly disappearing.
A timer that tidies up
A leftover reading timer card on the Lock Screen now clears itself instead of eating taps.
Smaller fixes
Refinements throughout, the sort you only notice by not noticing them.
