What's new in Must Read 3.5.5

Search is faster, scanning finds books the catalogue has never seen, and every import you have run now has a history of its own.

Improved

Search that keeps up with you

Until now your phone did the legwork itself: it asked the book database, waited, then wrote everything it received into the catalogue before it could show you a single result. That last step alone often took the best part of a second, every single search.

All of that has moved off your phone. Results now arrive noticeably faster, and a search you have run recently comes back almost immediately.

Typing an ISBN is the clearest change. Nearly a third of all searches are someone entering a number straight off the back of a book, and those used to take the long way round. Now they are answered at once.

Fixed

Books the catalogue has never seen

Scan something genuinely new, something no one using Must Read had ever added, and the app could come back empty handed. The book existed. We simply had not met it yet, and the app had no good way to go and find out.

Now it does. The book is fetched, added to the catalogue and opened, in one motion, in a second or two.

Asking Siri and pointing the camera at a cover reach the same place, so those find more books too.

New

Import history

Bring a library over from somewhere else and you were told what happened once, in the moment, and then never again. If you looked away, that was that.

Settings now keeps a record. Every import you have run, with what was added, what was updated and what was already on your shelves. You can also start an import from there whenever you like, rather than only when you first set the app up.

Importing the same file twice still never creates duplicates, and a book you had removed comes back if the file still lists it.

Fixed

Buttons that answer the first time

Pause and Resume on the Lock Screen could do nothing at all. It happened when your phone had quietly shut the app down in the background to free up memory, which is exactly when you are least likely to suspect the app of anything.

The reading session no longer depends on the card being awake to answer you. Press pause, and the session pauses, every time.

And everything else

Imports that own up

A book that could not be imported used to fail in silence. Now the app says how many, and offers to try again.

No accidental undo

A second tap on a timer card that has not caught up can no longer undo what you just did.

Honest when offline

Screens that need the network say so, instead of spinning quietly and hoping.

Smaller fixes

Refinements throughout, the sort you only notice by not noticing them.
