Falkner A Novel by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

The novel traces the coming of age of a young woman, Elizabeth, with a tyrannical father figure named Rupert Falkner. He is very strict with her upbringing, and is especially horrified when she falls in love with the son of a woman that Falkner had inadvertently caused to die many years before. The author (wife of the poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley) was a famous novelist in her own rite, and she considered this to be her best novel.
