The Artist Upstairs: Poetry and Prose by the Young Writers of Frog Hollow School

Have you ever been a hamburger? Experienced teleportation? Contemplated a leaf? Have you wondered what thimbleberries, orchids, or Coho salmon are thinking? Have you befriended a tree? How about cartwheeled over a vat of vicious penguins?

These are only a few of the experiences the writers in this anthology imagine and articulate. They remind us that we live in a world where trees can be in houses, where there are artists upstairs. This anthology is a collection of work written and chosen by students in Frog Hollow School's writing programs during the 2023-24 school year. The writers range from ages eight to sixteen, and mostly live in the greater Seattle area. Most are homeschooled. All have worked hard to express their worlds in writing.
