With a bilingual text, this book is linked to the second of three exhibitions organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art. The exhibitions were designed to provide an examination of the complex artistic cross-currents between Europe and America, and the impact that 20th-century artists from the Netherlands, Germany, Britain and the United States have had on each other.
