Nehemiah's spirit was troubled. He knew that God's glory was dishonored as long as Jerusalem was in ruins. A vision begins with the recognition of the deep need, with particular concern for God's glory. When God puts something on our hearts-when we recognize a situation that needs to change-we need to pray about it. Often, our emotions and the sense of burden deepen while a vision from God begins to develop in us as we pray. But to begin a vision of rebuilding broken walls, we must first see the ruins.
