Kindred

Kindred is the debut poetry book of spoken-word artist, Joy Samuel. Joy's prior work is almost entirely visual as a live poetry performer and producer of spoken-word film. Her artistic mediums finally come together in Kindred, which combines modern poetry with full-color editorial photography. Each photo was shot and creative directed to tell the visual story of the poem beside it. The purpose of this poetry book is to emulate the feeling one has when they encounter a stranger who seems to be their mirror image, twin flame, or "kindred" spirit. The poetry spans the range of many written styles, including classic rhymed poetry as well as free-verse, ebonic style.
