Toru Okada is an ordinary thirty-year-old man who has his own happiness: his beloved wife, a cat named for a joke by the name of a brother-in-law, a small house in a good neighborhood. Recently, however, he quit his job, but he does not see anything terrible in this. And so fate decided to play with him. First the cat disappears, the strange woman calls, then the wife leaves. Old prophecies begin to come true, bringing to his life many questions and no answers. But here riddles begin to form in a pattern...
