Ballad of the Rivers: Candid Lives Along the Water

Ballad of the Rivers is a visual song shaped by time, movement, and attention. Between 2000 and 2025, these photographs were taken from boats, riverbanks, and riverside roads across Bangladesh—a land defined by hundreds of rivers—with additional journeys through China and the United States. From these shifting edges, the images capture unguarded moments: lives in transit, gestures unfinished, time briefly held. This book has no chapters and no fixed order. Like a river, it flows without interruption, image following image. The photographs are presented without titles or captions. Words are intentionally absent. Captions can act like dams—they halt movement, name the moment, and narrow meaning. These images ask instead for drift, patience, and ambiguity, allowing the viewer to linger without instruction. Like a ballad, this book is built from repetition and variation, from gentle refrains and sudden intensities. Ballad of the Rivers invites the viewer to slow down, to move at the pace of water, and to listen—to the river, to the people it carries, and to the spaces in between.
