This is a biography of Aleksei Tolstoi (1882-1945), the "red count", the author of "Khozhdenie po Mukam", "Buratino", “Petr I”, etc. His life is a novel in itself. Poet-symbolist, writer-realist, anti-soviet author and Bolshevik are various aspects of his personality. His contemporaries doubted his nobility, but not his talent.
