Along the Buffalo A Collection of Buffalo River Poetry

No one knows when the last buffalo died, but the isolated herd was clearly doomed by the early 1800s from the growing pressures of fur trading and settlement. The woodland bison was not to be a survivor, but the Buffalo River is. Created exactly 100 years after our first national park, AmericaA[a¬a[s first national river preserves more than a name, more than a free-flowing river, it sustains an emotional connection to the land. The Buffalo is a living American poem flowing across the landscape and into the heart. Part One, a collection of 45 new poems about the many ways we interact with our land, draws from the authorA[a¬a[s three weeks as 2009 poet in residence at the Buffalo National River.
