Lights Along the River Landmark Architecture of the Maumee River Valley

"Lights Along the River: Landmark Architecture of the Maumee River Valley" tells the story of the historic landmarks in Ohio's Maumee River Valley. Tracing this architecture, the authors attempt to follow the course of the river, from Grand Rapids and Providence at the head of what was once known as the Great Rapids of the Maumee, through the early canal boat town and stagecoach stop Waterville, through Maumee and Perrysburg near the foot of the rapids, and finally to old Vistula, just north of downtown Toledo where the Maumee joins the bay. The purpose of this book, as with the many other efforts of the Landmarks Committee of the Maumee Valley Historical Society, is to create a keener interest in the architecture which is found in the area. The wealth of historic architecture featured in this book includes houses, commercial buildings, churches, and governmental buildings in a variety of styles, including Federal, Greek Revival, Italianate, Gothic Revival, and various Victorian styles. All buildings include a photograph and history of that building, including how it and its owners were involved in their communities.
