The Wench is Dead

In 1989, while in hospital recovering from a perforated ulcer, Chief Inspector Morse comes across an account of a 1859 murder investigation and trial. He becomes convinced that the two men who were hanged were innocent. Morse has to rely on others to do the legwork of his re-investigation until he is discharged and can prove his case with an audacious and brilliant act of detection.
