First of two collections of short stories about Geralt of Rivia, Witcher. This collection includes six short stories interspersed with a continuing frame story: Geralt is recovering in a temple after being injured in battle and during this time he has flashbacks to recent events in his life; each of these is one of the short stories. In each, Geralt uses his sorcerous powers to hunt down the monsters that threaten the world, but he soon discovers that not every monstrous-looking creature is evil, and not everything beautiful is good.
