The Memoir of the Little Man is the true life story of Patrick Feren who grew up in a deeply dysfunctional family setting with a father who suffered a long list of diagnoses: PTSD, bipolar disorder, alcoholism, and the final diagnosis- paranoid schizophrenia and extreme delusions.As we move with him through his journey, he shares his mental, emotional, and spiritual coping processes and skills that allowed him to grow into the healthy adult he is today. His inner child work using the technique of reframing, reclaiming, and renaming were born out of his harrowing early years of dancing with fear and danger and coming out the other side, not unscathed, but as an advocate for those who have suffered from mental illness or have lived with the mentally ill. Patrick believes that any challenge in life, no matter the degree, is an opening for healing. His hope is that this book will in some way bring an understanding to the powerful inner tools we have for change and healing.
