The Shadows We Chase

Clare London is an ex-FBI Special Agent who is equally beautiful as she is troubled. Her difficult childhood drove her to get an advanced degree in clinical psychology to not only understand her past but to help others. Clare meets and marries Stuart MacArthur and they move to San Diego for Clare’s new job working for the San Diego Police Department as a part-time detective. Stuart is a tall, red-headed former ‘footballer’ from Scotland, who is fabulously wealthy but also incredibly selfish. He is writing a historical fiction novel about Jack the Ripper and spends most of his days writing in his room and his nights seemingly exploring the underbelly of San Diego seeking material for his novel.
A year after joining the San Diego Police Department and setting up a small clinical psychology practice in her home, a relentless serial killer dubbed ‘Master D’ resurfaces in San Diego, leaving a trail of victims and clues that only Clare can decipher. Haunted by a dark secret from her past, Clare battles her inner demons as she races against time to catch the elusive killer.
A copycat killer begins similarly murdering men, to further complicate the investigation and the FBI is called in to help with the investigation. Special Agent Bradley Kim then comes back into Clare’s life with disastrous results. Clare discovers that the current killings mirror an unsolved case she worked in Washington DC by someone they called 'The Shadow' - a case that left her scarred and changed forever. As the pressure builds on Clare and her SDPD partner, Rafer Jones, a mysterious former patient reenters Clare’s life, and the lines between hunter and prey blur.
As the body count rises, Clare, Rafer, and the FBI intensify their efforts to apprehend the serial killer as he circles closer and closer to Clare. The climax builds to a heart-pounding encounter between Clare and the serial killer on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. He knows her secrets, just as she knows his. Only one will survive this confrontation.
