Trapezund and the Golden Horde were region of intense international trade. Unfortunately, there are very few documents which would permit scholars to describe the economics of the region. The author used old treasure and coin collections as a source of information. This monograph heavily uses statistical methods to make conclusions about monetary production and circulation in this region in the 13th-15th centuries. Analysis of numismatic materials helped the author make conclusions on the dating of certain archeological material, and identify trends in the region's economy, politics, and demography.
